Injection Pen Instructions

Administering an injection requires careful preparation and technique to ensure safety and effectiveness. Below are step-by-step instructions for giving an injection using a peptide pen.

Gather Supplies:

  • Injection pen with the correct cartridge.

  • Pen needle (new, sterile).

  • Alcohol wipes or swabs.

  • Sharps container.

Wash Your Hands:

  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

Prepare the Peptide Pen:

  • Pull the two ends of the pen apart to reveal the cartridge holder
  • Check the cartridge in the pen to confirm it’s the correct type.

  • Wipe the pen’s rubber tip with an alcohol wipe.

  • Attach a new pen needle by screwing it onto the pen securely.

Prime the Pen:

  • Wind the dial to 40 and press the button to move the mechanism to the base of the rubber bung in the cartridge (you may have to do this multiple times).
  • Set the pen to a low dose (e.g., number 2 on the dial).

  • Hold the pen with the needle pointing up and press the injection button to release a small amount of liquid.

  • Check for a drop of appears at the needle tip. Repeat if nothing appears (this ensures the pen is working and air is removed).

Set the Dose:

  • Dial the pen to the desired dose (e.g. number 10 on the dial).

Choose an Injection Site:

  • Select a site.

  • Rotate sites to prevent tissue damage.

  • Clean the site with an alcohol wipe and let it dry.

Administer the Injection:

  • Pinch a fold of skin (about 1–2 inches) for better accuracy.

  • Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle (or 45-degrees if necessary).

  • Press the injection button fully and hold it for 5–10 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered.

Remove the Needle and Dispose:

  • Pull the needle out and release the skin.

  • Apply gentle pressure with a cotton ball if needed.

  • Remove the pen needle and dispose of it in a sharps container. Do not reuse needles.

Record the Dose:

  • Log the dose, time, and site if advised by your healthcare provider.
